Product Review – Outdoor Research Mitts

Outdoor Research PL 400 Mitts.

You know when you go into a retail store and you know you’re going to end up paying more money than you want to even though you know the product will last a long time and you really need it, but then suddenly you find exactly what you want and it’s on sale? This is exactly what happened to me this spring when I went to REI. I wanted to get a backup pair of mitts in case one pair got soaked (as had just happened to me and I was freezing, barely able to unclench my fists and straighten out my fingers).

I went with Outdoor Research not only because they were on sale, but as soon as I put them on, they were warm. They helped my fingers generate heat. I have another pair of OR gloves that got a little shredded when I was working as a dog sled tour guide and they replaced them for me with a new pair.

This pair offers a double-layer fleece and will fit easily into my expedition gloves for those -20 degree mornings. My hands have been exposed to the cold so often, that even 30 degree temps have my fingers not functioning.  I have worn these on cool days, days where it’s misting and windy days and they have performed extremely well.

•    300-weight smooth fleece exterior and 100-weight fleece interior for superior warmth
•    MirrorSeam™ double-layer fleece construction with hidden seams
•    MotionWrap™ construction for minimal seams
•    Silicone prints on palm provide solid grip
•    Contoured wrist construction for more secure, snug fit

The true question of the quality of a product is ‘would you replace this product if you lost it with another one of the same at full price?’ Yes, I definitely would!
