Product Review – Prana Monarch Convertible Pant

The Prana Monarch Convertible Pant is constructed of 97% Nylon/3% Spandex. The pant itself sits a little higher on my waist than I’m used to, but would still be considered a low waist for most. I bought them because having low-waisted pants with a pack ends up in the pants being edged down until your plumber’s crack isn’t subtle at all. The stretchiness of this material is great and the fit snug. They dry quickly, even after being exposed to morning dew on overgrown trails and the zip off feature is perfect for mountain hiking where weather starts cool in the mornings but warms quickly during the day.

The one downside I found with these pants is the material itself. The DWR coating which makes them water resistant blocks breathability, meaning during hot days the pants stuck to me. These pants have a cool feel in the material, translating to cool legs on cooler mornings. They didn’t warm up as my legs did like a cotton pant would, making me long for my thermals. However, for spring and fall days, these pants work well and they served me through temperatures ranging from 80 degrees to 50 degrees comfortably. The pockets were great for holding my camera and other small essentials, helping me keep them in arm’s reach.
