Little Guy Takes on Big Chemical Companies

I first found out about this company when they emailed me asking to link to my website Alternative-Lawncare.com. I was immediately impressed by their business. I am anti-pesticides. They can cause cancer, cause asthma and lead to many other health effects that aren’t even fully understood. Pesticides sprayed on lawns also pollute waterways and have harmful effects on wildlife and beneficial insects.

Clean Air Lawn Care just expanded their services to a nationwide plan to help people convert to a healthier way of taking care of their lawn through solar and wind powered lawn mowers. To sweeten the deal, Clean Air Lawn Care announces their Come Clean Campaign with an offer to provide free organic fertilization for current customers of chemical-using lawn care companies.

Did You Know?

•    Chemical fertilizers contain many known and suspected carcinogens. In a test conducted by the California Public Interest Research Group, 29 fertilizers were tested for 22 toxic metals. All 29 tested fertilizers contained all 22 metals. The metals found in these fertilizers are known or suspected carcinogens and reproductive, developmental, liver and blood toxicants.

•    Labeling for chemical fertilizers lacks full disclosure. Fertilizer labeling laws only require beneficial nutrients (i.e. Nitrogen, Potassium, Zinc, Phosphate) to be listed.

•    Nearby plants absorb toxic chemicals. Vegetable gardens next to treated lawns are susceptible to absorbing toxic substances.

•    Chemical fertilizers create water pollution. They contain soluble nitrogen and phosphorous which cause eutrophication/algae bloom such as the 7,000 square mile ‘dead zone’ in the Gulf of Mexico. Chemicals leach into runoff polluting lakes, ponds, rivers, estuaries and groundwater. Forty percent of the nation’s waterways are too polluted for swimming. The EPA reports that metals such as those found in chemical fertilizers are the second most common pollutants in waterways.

Clean Air Lawn Care is encouraging everyone to come clean by switching over to safe, healthy, sustainable organic lawn care. If using a current chemical lawn care company (some of the largest chemical lawn care companies are TruGreen, Lawn Doctor, Scotts, WeedMan), Clean Air Lawn Care will provide that customer with a free year of organic fertilization when they also sign up for Clean Air’s emission-free, solar powered mowing service.
